A New Semester…

The blizzard hitting the East Coast has finally made it’s way to my house and I am hunkered down waiting for the snow to stop falling. Since they’ve estimated anywhere between 8″ and 2′, I think I might be waiting awhile.

Anyway….

The Spring 2016 Semester began at my University this past Tuesday (January 19th) and after the first week of classes I can certainly confirm to you that this semester will be FAR more work than I had originally thought. With a 2D animation project and 1.5 digital paintings due by the second week of March for midterms, ALL of my spare time will be going to artwork. Not to mention I have to have an entire comic book done for my Illustration class by the time the semester ends in the second week of May. And more projects will pile up as the semester progresses. And then I have that children’s book to illustrate, too…

Basically, if you see me on here, I’m procrastinating or I’ve finished what needs to be done for the time being. Although, it will probably be the first reason.

If you want to see my art you can find me here on DeviantArt: Soleil Grand! I upload my work at least once a week.

Take care of me this semester, please!

Comic Collaboration: A Word To My Fellow WordPress Bloggers

I have, for some time, sincerely wished to start an online webcomic through my Deviant Art account page. However, I’m seriously lacking in the digital art field. So, while I can come up with all of these great story ideas to write about, and I can hand-draw my sketches and outlines for my comic, I cannot digitally ink or color it. I just don’t know how.

I have watched tutorial after tutorial and I STILL get it all wrong when I finally sit down to try it. My attempts always come out very poor. It’s very discouraging and I just end up frustrated.

I have tried, for some time now, too, over the summer, to ask fellow artists on Deviant Art if anyone would be willing to collaborate with me. I would do all of the story writing and I can handle designs, and then I can pass these drafts on to my collaboration partner to create a digital version of it that we can then upload onto Deviant Art for others to enjoy.

However, no one has responded to my asking and I grow disheartened still. So, let me ask you, WordPress community and fellow bloggers: Are any of you interested in helping me to create a webcomic we can publish to Deviant Art? Are any of you willing to be the digital artist while I am the writer and designer?

Please let me know with a comment below.

Sincerely,

Soleil

Beni’s Walk, Emma, and ED Baker

Good afternoon world!

Day Six of our family vacation is in full swing! While my parents and brother and his girlfriend and her two sisters are at the beach (see, we only have 6 beach tags, so one of us had to stay behind…. Side Rant: I think it’s quite incredulous that you need to buy tags to go onto a beach. A beach should be public property where families and friends can go to relax. But, no, some towns and cities actually charge you to use their beaches! How demanding! What is this world coming to?). Ahem, anyway. I decided to walk Beni around town while they enjoy the sun and surf. I’m pretty beached out anyway and could use a day to relax from the surf, sand, and sun.

Beni and I made plenty of friends on our walk today. She is an ever-popular dog. I guess it helps that she’s super adorable and very socialable and friendly. I walked her 10 blocks to Starbucks. Once there, the lady at the window where I placed my order for iced green tea gave me a treat for Beni. That was nice. She asked if I was a dog walker, because when I went to this same Starbucks and this same girl was my server earlier in the week, I had been walking Leila, then. I told her no, I just have different dogs, haha! Beni and I then sat at a table outside and relaxed in the shade of the awning over the building while I drank my tea. I have a portable dog bowl that folds up, so I undid that and gave Beni some fresh, cool water to drink, too.

While I sat there, I met two men who are here on vacation from Albania! I thought at first that they were speaking French, and when I said that, the one guy snorted into his drink. I guess he found it funny. But they were speaking Albanian! I’m just glad they weren’t speaking French because I thought for a moment that maybe I forgot all that I’ve learned and practiced when I couldn’t quite make out what they were saying.

Well, that being said, once Beni and I were done with our drinks and our break, I walked her 10 blocks back to our shore house. Now, she’s passed out on our couch, sleeping. What a cutie.

I found a new webcomic! It’s called “Emma”! Well, actually, DeviantArt introduced me to it, but that’s beside the point (or is it? Hm….). Here’s the link, so check it out: Emma: The Online Comic.

I think that’s it for now? Other than that, I’m reading E.D. Baker’s “The Frog Princess” series. Did you know that her book is what Disney’s “The Frog Princess” was based off of? It was written back in the early 2000s. Since I have to wait for October for the other book in her newer series to come out, I figured I’d re-read her first series since I:

  1. Can’t quite remember it. And….
  2. Am not quite sure that I ever finished the whole series.

I’m off to do some more reading (and writing probably). I’ll post some more pictures from my vacation later.

Look for my words again soon!

Wholock: Yay for Effort…. What?

I’m tired.

I’m also bad at going to bed early when I’m tired like this and know for a fact that I have to wake up at a decent time the next morning. This being said, I still decided to jump on here and post to you guys. See, I’m not good at this bedtime thing.

I was just sitting here at my desk thinking about how much I like it. I was also thinking about how I want to upload some more work to my DeviantArt account sometime this week. You see, I’ve been slacking on uploading my artwork and that’s bad. I should start giving myself deadlines. What else…? Oh, I’ve started a Doctor Who/Sherlock fanfiction, which I upload to my DA, as well. (If you’d like me to share the link to my DA accout, please let me know.)

Oh, it’s “Wholock” to be precise…that specific pairing of shows. I don’t know. Apparently it’s a thing and I decided that I liked the idea, so I’m going with it and seeing what I can come up with. Yay for effort! (Haha, see the pun there, well, not a pun, but the rhyme. Instead of “A for effort” it’s “Yay for effort”. Ahem, yes, this is my rant today. Random as always!)

Look for my words again soon!

A Wacom, Fishing, and a Pet Pocket!

Oh, apparently the time on my Wacom Tablet is wrong. It’s an hour behind. So, while I thought it was 12:44 AM, it’s really 1:44 AM! Ah…I should fix that, but I’ve already shut it down for the night. Tomorrow then…if I remember.

I decided a few hours ago that I want a fishing license. I went to the local Walmart to try and obtain one, but their hours for purchasing one are 8 AM – 8 PM, and since I showed up at 10:30 PM at night, I couldn’t get one. I did buy a new pole however (because I couldn’t untangle the one I had from my brothers’ from when we were kids) and a new bobber. I’ll have to go back in the morning to get my license. My plan is to pick up my 12-yr. old cousin and take him to lunch with Pepere, and then hopefully the three of us can go fishing afterwards. My cousin is all for the idea, we just have to see if Pepere wants to join us. I hope he will. Oh, let me mention, too, that my cousin is home for the next 5 weeks from California, where he lives with his mother. Since he’s with his Dad (my Uncle) until mid-July, I get to hang out with him. Yay! This kid is really awesome and we get along great. Makes me think of Jae, sometimes.

Oh! I’ve just remembered that I have to feed Pocket! She’s my Fancy Leopard Gecko! She’s 11 months old, almost a year! Ah, so cute! I can’t wait for her to be a year old! Here’s here picture, isn’t she adorable?

Pocket

She’s wonderful! I bought her mealworms today when I was at Walmart the first time. I made two trips to Walmart today. I bought my fishing rod during the second trip.

My hand is a bit stiff after spending the past 2.5 hours working on a piece on my Wacom Tablet. I use Fire Alpaca. Ever hear of it? It’s like Photoshop, but easier. A friend of mine from Japan recommended it to me on DeviantArt. I absolutely love it! I find it much easier to use than Photoshop, plus it’s free to download! Can’t be that price! Yay!

Look for my words again soon!
